Can I pour hot water on a frozen lock to un-stick it?
We don’t recommend using hot water on a frozen lock- as the water, if it’s still cold enough, might freeze causing an even bigger problem. In a pinch, try rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle, or a hair dryer. A little WD40 sprayed into a lock will also keep it from freezing on a cold night.

What kind of padlock should we buy?
As with other situations, the type of padlock you need depends on what you hope to protect. Padlocks vary in their design and quality of materials.
